Noah and the Rainbow

This Devotion was written by Stanley Edwards. He is a Deacon at Anchor Baptist Church:

The ark was safely on dry ground again. A few minutes before, it was filled with growling, barking, honking, purring animals. Now the door was wide open and the giant boat sat on a mountain top, all empty and quiet (what a mess how would you like to clean up that boat). All the animals had rushed out the door to fill the earth again
God was pleased with Noah. But most of all, God was pleased that Noah was truly thankful. And so God made this promise to Noah,
Genesis 9:8-11 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you every living creature on earth. I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."
God also knew that one day he would send his Son to save us. God saved Noah’s family and he can save your family to show us that he has the power to save us all, and one day bring us to a new life with him in heaven. And then God said to Noah, "Look up in the sky."Noah looked up. The storm clouds were drifting away, the bright sun was shining against Noah's back. And against the dark grey sky, God made a brilliant rainbow appear. God said to Noah
Genesis 9:13-16 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.
So, the next time you see a rainbow, think of Noah and the flood. Remember that God loves you, and that no matter how bad the storm, there will always come a bright new day. That is God's promise, and God always keeps his promises.

  1. When you think about it, the rainbow may be the only visible token of a promise God has made to man. And what a beautiful token it is. Thanks for the reminder.
