On Wednesday Jesus spent time in Bethany at the home of a man known as Simon the Leper. While he was there a woman brought expensive oil in a beautiful alabaster box and poured it on his head. The disciples were indignant, calling it a waste because the perfume could have been sold and money given to the poor. "Aware of this, Jesus said to them, Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.” (Matthew 25:10-12). Jesus knew what the disciples did not know—that he had just two days left to live.
